Goldsboro High School
Goldsboro High School is a public high school located in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Goldsboro High School was classified as a 2-A school with an enrollment of 858 students (2007-2008), but now is classified as a 1-A school.[1]
The school's mascot is the cougar, and the school colors are navy and gold.
Notable alumni
- Clyde King - Former Major League pitcher, manager, and special advisor to George Steinbrenner, owner of the NY Yankees.
- Jerry Narron (1974) - Former Major League player (catcher) and former manager of the Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers.
- Dave Odom - Former men's basketball coach for Wake Forest, East Carolina, and University of South Carolina. Won over 400 games. Retired end of 2007-08 season. Member of North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.
- David Thornton - Thornton is a linebacker in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans.
Notable faculty
Andy Griffith also taught English at Goldsboro High School for a few years. He is credited by many for creating the high school's marching band, which, to date, has been one of the most prolific high school bands in history.
